Message From The Office of Parent and Community Services

Dear PCS Parents & Community Members,

Welcome to Summer 2020. I realize that this summer has a very different mood than most. With the continuation of the COVID-19 Virus amid us, we are not able to travel and enjoy ourselves as we usually would. However, this is an opportunity to continue to enjoy our families, relax and apply as much self-care as you possibly can.

Last week, staff in the Office of Parent and Community Services (PCS) were saddened to hear the news about the passing of our beloved parent leader and friend, Juan Godinez. PCS extends heart-felt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Godinez. He was a parent leader at 32nd Street Magnet School, PCS, Local District Central and in his community. He was a true advocate for students and families, and he will be sorely missed. If you are interested in assisting with the planning of the Memorial Service, a meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, July 15 at 1:00 pm. Please email us at to confirm your participation.

The Office of Parent and Community Services, in partnership with parent leaders, also wrapped up strategic planning sessions entitled ‘From Family Involvement to Empowerment: Cultivating a Path for Family, School and District Partnerships.’ This was an opportunity for family, student, community, Local District Parent and Community Engagement (PACE), and central office leaders to collaborate and learn together. The ideas collected will impact the PCS Parent and Family Engagement Strategic Plan. PCS also wants to especially acknowledge and thank all parent leaders who served as co-presenters and the participants who engaged in the dialogue in the breakout sessions.

A topic that is top of mind for you is the new school year. Many families have wonderings about instruction and expectations for the upcoming school year. Read the message we sent to you on behalf of the Superintendent on Monday with news that we will begin the school year continuing with distance learning. Please continue to stay connected with Superintendent Austin Beutner’s weekly updates that air on Mondays at 11 a.m. on KLCS. More information may also be found on the LAUSD website at We also invite you to connect with your local district office on social media or visit their website to find dates and times for a series of town hall meetings beginning this month to discuss the new school year:
